PRP treatment – Platelet-Rich Plasma therapy – is one of the most widely researched regenerative procedures in aesthetic medicine. It uses a concentrated preparation of your own blood platelets, rich in growth factors, to stimulate hair follicles, accelerate skin repair, and support tissue regeneration. Because the material comes from your own body, there is no allergy risk and no foreign substance involved.
At Navaa Plastic & Cosmetic Surgery, PRP treatment is performed under the supervision of MCh-qualified plastic surgeons – a level of clinical oversight that most PRP providers in Mumbai do not offer. Every session uses sterile, single-use equipment. The treatment plan is based on an honest assessment of what PRP can and cannot achieve for your specific concern.

PRP stands for Platelet-Rich Plasma. It is a concentrate of your own blood platelets – the tiny cells that play a central role in wound healing and tissue repair. Platelets contain growth factors and signalling molecules that are released when tissue is injured, triggering the body’s natural repair response. In PRP treatment, this healing response is delivered in concentrated form to a targeted area – the scalp, the face, or scar tissue – by drawing a small amount of blood, centrifuging it to separate and concentrate the platelets, and injecting the resulting platelet-rich plasma.
PRP therapy is also called platelet-rich plasma therapy, PRP injections, or – when applied to the face with microneedling – the vampire facial. Because it uses your own blood, it is autologous: there is no risk of allergic reaction or rejection. The concentration of platelets achieved is higher than in normal blood, which is what makes the treatment effective – it delivers a larger dose of growth factors to the treatment area than would naturally occur.
Blood contains red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets, and plasma. When a tissue is injured, platelets arrive at the site and release growth factors that activate the body’s repair process. PRP concentrates these platelets by centrifuging blood to separate the platelet-rich layer from the rest.
When activated PRP is injected into the scalp, the growth factors stimulate follicular cells, improve blood supply to the follicle, and extend the growth phase of the hair cycle. When injected into skin, the same growth factors activate fibroblasts to produce collagen and elastin, improving skin quality and texture. The 2025 systematic review of 43 randomised controlled trials confirmed that activated PRP – where the platelets are triggered to release their growth factors before injection – produces better results than non-activated PRP, and with fewer side effects.
For early-stage hair thinning, yes – with important caveats. A 2025 systematic review of 43 randomised controlled trials found that activated PRP significantly improved hair density compared with placebo. However, PRP is not approved by the CDSCO for hair loss in India, and it has not been shown to outperform minoxidil or finasteride – the approved first-line medical treatments. PRP works best alongside proven medical therapy rather than as a replacement for it.
PRP does not cure hair loss, it does not work in areas of complete baldness where the follicle is already gone, and results require maintenance sessions to sustain. Realistic expectation-setting is an important part of any PRP consultation – at Navaa, we will tell you clearly what stage of hair loss is likely to respond, and what combination of treatments gives the best result for your specific situation.
Choose PRP if: you have early to moderate hair thinning with follicles still present and responsive, you want a non-surgical approach, or you want to support a hair transplant result. PRP is a supportive, non-permanent treatment that requires ongoing maintenance.
Choose hair transplant if: your hair loss is advanced, you have significant areas of baldness where follicles are gone, or you want a permanent solution that restores hair where it has been completely lost. Hair transplant is the only procedure that restores hair in areas of complete baldness. See Hair Transplant in Mumbai for the full overview of FUE and DHI hair transplant at Navaa.
Combine both if: you are having a hair transplant and want to support graft survival and accelerate growth in the post-operative period. PRP used alongside hair transplant surgery has been shown to support follicular activity and may improve transplant outcomes.
You may be a suitable candidate for PRP hair treatment if:
– You have early to moderate hair thinning with follicles still present – PRP cannot regrow hair where the follicle is completely gone
– Your hair loss has not yet reached an advanced stage – early intervention produces better results
– You want to support ongoing medical treatment for hair loss with a regenerative approach
– You are having or have had a hair transplant and want to support graft survival and growth
You may be a suitable candidate for PRP facial or vampire facial if:
– You have dull, tired-looking skin or early fine lines that you want to improve without synthetic fillers
– You have acne scarring that would benefit from PRP as part of a combination treatment approach
– You want a natural, autologous skin rejuvenation treatment with no allergy risk
– You are in good general health with normal blood counts and no active infection
PRP treatment may not be appropriate if you have:
– A low platelet count or platelet dysfunction – thrombocytopenia or an inherited platelet disorder
– A bleeding or clotting disorder, or ongoing anticoagulant medication – never stop blood thinners for a cosmetic procedure without your prescribing doctor’s explicit approval
– Active infection at the treatment site or systemic infection
– Active or recent cancer – particularly haematological malignancy, where growth factor delivery warrants caution
– Significant anaemia, liver disease, or chronic illness affecting blood quality or healing
– Pregnancy or breastfeeding
– Advanced baldness with no viable follicles – PRP cannot regrow hair where the follicle is already gone; a hair transplant is the appropriate option in this case
Your surgeon will review all relevant medical history at consultation before recommending PRP treatment.
The cost of PRP treatment at Navaa depends on whether it is for hair or skin, the number of sessions in the treatment course, and whether PRP is combined with other procedures. A detailed, transparent cost estimate is provided at consultation after the surgeon has assessed your case and confirmed the treatment plan.
– Indication: PRP hair treatment and PRP facial have different volumes, session counts, and cost structures
– Number of sessions: most patients need three to four sessions for hair and two to three for skin; the total course cost is more meaningful than a per-session price
– Activation protocol: activated PRP preparation requires additional reagents; non-activated PRP costs less but produces inferior results
– Combination treatments: PRP combined with microneedling (vampire facial), laser resurfacing, or fat grafting affects the overall session cost
– Maintenance: budget for ongoing maintenance sessions every four to six months after the initial course
Navaa offers flexible EMI options through leading financial partners, making PRP treatment accessible without full upfront payment for a complete course. Our team will discuss payment options at consultation.
– No hospital stay – walk in, walk out; most patients resume normal activities the same day
– Mild redness, soreness, and swelling at injection sites for 24 to 48 hours – this is normal
– Avoid washing hair or face for 24 hours after the session
– Avoid anti-inflammatory medication for 48 hours after PRP – the mild inflammation supports the healing mechanism
– For hair PRP: temporary increased shedding may occur in weeks two to four before new growth begins
– Hair growth results begin at three to four months and continue improving through six months
– Skin PRP results develop progressively over four to six weeks as collagen remodelling progresses
– Full results of the initial course are assessed at three to six months after the final session
– Maintenance sessions every four to six months sustain the result – PRP results are not permanent without maintenance
PRP treatment at Navaa begins with honesty about what the evidence supports and what it does not. We do not position PRP as a cure for hair loss or a replacement for proven medical treatments. We tell patients clearly that PRP works best in early hair thinning, alongside rather than instead of minoxidil or finasteride, and that advanced hair loss needs a hair transplant rather than PRP. We also believe safety is the foundation of every PRP session – sterile, single-use equipment and proper clinic protocols are non-negotiable.
